Enzyme Wash

Enzyme wash is a textile treatment technique used to create a soft, worn-in appearance on fabrics. It involves using naturally occurring enzymes to break down surface fibres, resulting in a softer feel, a vintage look, and an aged texture.

VISUAL EFFECT

Soft hand-feel with a light worn-in surface

INTENSITY RANGE

Light softening effect

Benefits

Enzymes break down surface fibres to soften the hand and lightly fade the colour, without stones or bleach. The lower-impact route to a worn-in feel.

Limitations

Fabric response varies, so the enzyme recipe is set per quality. Wash strength is fixed at approval so softness and colour land where intended.

Process
  • Fabric Preparation: Choose the fabric or denim garment, and dampen it so the enzyme spreads evenly.
  • Chemical Preparation: Dilute the suitable enzyme solution in water.
  • Chemical Application: Apply the enzyme solution evenly by spraying, soaking or another method. Leave it for the manufacturer's reaction time, then neutralise the enzymes if needed.
  • Washing & Drying: Machine wash with mild detergent to remove excess enzymes. Air-dry, or tumble dry on low heat.
  • Quality Check & Finishing: Check softness, colour and texture. Sand, grind or distress the fabric for a more worn-in look if needed.
