Specifications

CATEGORY

Dye

VISUAL EFFECT

Muted, earth-tone colour

INTENSITY RANGE

Variable, sample-dependent

Benefits

Colour comes from plant, mineral or other natural sources rather than synthetic dyestuff. Gives muted, earth-toned shades that support a low-impact product story.

Limitations

Shade varies with the dye source and season, so an exact repeat between runs cannot be guaranteed. Very dark and highly saturated colours are outside the range.

Process
  • Fabric Preparation: Choose the fabric and make sure it is clean and free from impurities.
  • Dye Extraction: Select the natural dye source, such as plant materials or insects, and extract the colourants.
  • Mordanting: Treat the fabric with a mordant to improve dye absorption and colourfastness.
  • Dyeing: Immerse the fabric in the dye bath for even coverage. Control the time and temperature to reach the target colour.
  • Rinsing & Drying: Rinse until the water runs clear, then air-dry.
