VISUAL EFFECT

Classic folded, multi-colour tie-dye pattern

INTENSITY RANGE

Variable, multi-colour, sample-dependent

Benefits

Folding, tying or binding the garment before dyeing keeps dye out of some areas and gives the classic multi-colour pattern. Every piece is individual within the agreed pattern family.

Limitations

Pattern placement varies from piece to piece, so each garment is individual within the agreed limits. Colour softens with wash and sunlight, which suits a garment meant to age.

Process
  • Fabric Preparation: Wash the fabric and soak it in a solution that helps it absorb the dye.
  • Pattern Forming: Bind, tie or fold sections of the fabric to create the pattern.
  • Dye Application: Dip or spray the fabric with dyes in different colours. The bound areas resist the dye, which forms the pattern.
  • Dye Setting: Wrap the fabric in plastic or cover it to keep it moist, so the dye sets and penetrates fully.
  • Rinsing & Drying: Rinse out excess dye, then leave the fabric to dry.
