Vintage Wash

Vintage wash textiles are fabrics or garments treated to achieve a weathered, aged look, similar to vintage items. The process involves techniques like stonewashing or enzyme washing to soften the fabric and create a retro appearance. It's often used for casual wear and denim, providing a comfortable, faded, and vintage-inspired style.

Benefits

Stone or enzyme washing softens the fabric and fades the colour for a worn, retro finish. The everyday route to a lived-in look on knit.

Limitations

The finish varies between pieces, which is what makes it read as genuinely aged. Set the fade level at approval so the run stays consistent as a family.

Process
  • Fabric Preparation: Choose the fabrics or garments, and make sure they are clean and free from impurities.
  • Wash Cycle: Apply the chosen vintage wash method, such as stonewashing or enzyme washing.
  • Rinsing & Neutralisation: Rinse thoroughly to remove residues. Use a neutralising agent to stop the enzyme action.
  • Drying: Air-dry or machine dry, depending on the vintage look required.
  • Finishing: If needed, add distressing, whiskering or hand-sanding to strengthen the vintage look.
